From Garage to Hang Out Space
Blacktail Hang Out
Garages don’t need to be for storage. With some creativity, they can be the ultimate hang out space. Linda and Mark Barstad of Williston, ND have done just this with theirs. “The garage evolved from a tiny, single stall garage with a dart board between the rafters to a real family spot,” said Linda.
When remodeling, the Barstads put in heated flooring to make the space cozy year-round, even during bitter North Dakota winters. During the warmer seasons, a screen can be pulled down over the garage door opening to let in the fresh air without the bugs. Another feature the Barstads added was a small bathroom. Linda explained why this was a must-have saying, “The kids come in wet from the water and now they don’t have to go through the house. It’s our most used bathroom!”
To make the space entertaining, a ping-pong table, Foosball table, TV, tables, chairs, and two beverage fridges were added. Completing the look are the many decoration that you can see on this blog. Storage is the last thing this garage is used for, and vehicles are only brought inside during storms.Linda explains, “This is our play place. If it needs to be stored, it probably doesn’t belong in here.”
